Phase I Demo Day Recap & Phase II Overview

The NIH Build UP Trust Challenge virtual demonstration day was held on June 12, 2024 to announce 20 promising solutions selected to proceed to Phase II of the NIH Build UP Trust Challenge.

The event was attended by experts and organizations from all over the country, and featured remarks from Dr. Lawrence A. Tabak, Principal Deputy Director of NIH and Dr. Gary H. Gibbons, Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. View the recording of their remarks here.

Attendees engaged in breakout sessions and presentations from Dr. Maliha Ilias with NIH Community Partnership to Advance Science for Society (ComPASS) and Dr. Cheryl Boyce with NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL). The event closed with the announcement of 10 finalists who will receive $45,000 each and 10 honorable mentions. View the recording of the announcement here.

All 20 teams will move into Phase II of the NIH Build UP Trust Challenge where they will have approximately one year to further strengthen and implement their proposed solution for the opportunity to receive one of four $200,000 awards.

The NIH Build UP Trust Challenge will award as many as ten Finalists up to $45,000 each and the opportunity to win one of four $200,000 prizes for promising strategies that increase research participation and the adoption of medical care by building trust and improving engagement with historically underserved communities.
